In a city where neighborhoods are crudely divided by gang wars and drug deals, there is a place of refuge — Homeboy Bakery — where members of at least eight Los Angeles gangs work side by side baking artisanal bread. The bakery is not just giving these gang members, homeless people and newly released convicts a job, it’s giving them a second chance at being productive members of society. When I heard about this incredible bakery, I had to write about it and spread the word. Check out my article in ThriveWire and if you live in southern California, consider picking up your next loaf of bread at Homeboy Bakery.
