Shop signs around Europe

It seems everywhere we travel in Europe we find ornate signs hanging outside of shops. I try to always snap a photo without backing up sidewalk traffic too much. I recently realized I had more than 20 of such photos in my reserve, so today I’m featuring 11 of my favorites. Enjoy!

I don’t remember seeing many signs like these in the States. I’m not sure about their history (is it just a European thing?) and why they may have fallen out of fashion at some point. In Southern California we have a wealth of fun, mid-century signage–especially neon signs. In Las Vegas, there is even a neon sign museum. Are there shop signs where you live?
