An Irish road trip: The Cliffs of Moher

On our second day of our Irish road trip, my sister and I drove from Limerick to Galway and stopped at the Cliffs of Moher on the way. I thought I would be prepared for the dramatic landscape–the cliffs are so famous they’ve been featured in a number of music videos, as well as  movies like The Princess Bride and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. But postcards and movies do not do them justice. The technicolor green grass speckled with daisies. The brilliant blue Atlantic crashing on the rocks. The crumbling earth dropping into the sea. Un-real.

The hours we spent roaming these seemingly endless cliffs were transformative. We could have been in any century. It is one of those places that buoys the soul and excites the spirit.

The edge of the world.
