The three coolest suitcases on the market

I love my carry-on suitcase and it has been my faithful travel companion for more than ten years. I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s in the market–with one caveat, many airlines do not consider it a carry-on any longer. It’s just too big. It’s a bulky 2005 bag living in a sleek 2016 world. And your bag might be next.

The International Air Transport Association (a Geneva-based organization representing 250 airlines), is attempting to pass a new rule limiting carry-on luggage to meet these specifications: 21.5″ x 13.5″ x 7.5″. The rule has not been approved, yet.

In the meantime, I’ve begun a quest to find a new carry-on…and let me tell you, luggage has come a long way in the past decade.

Raden. Built-in technology allows travelers to weigh the bag by lifting its handle, locate the bag via a GPS iPhone app, and charge USB devices directly from the top of the bag. “An integrated 7,800mAh battery allows up to 4x full phone charges while two 2.1A USB ports enable dual device charging,” according to their site.

Its reversed zipper lining and polyurethane overlay promises a waterproof seal; the built-in lock prevents tampering. The lining includes zippered compartments and mesh pockets. Dimensions are 22″ x 14″ x 9″ which meet current TSA guidelines. Weighs 8.4lbs. Comes in matte black, glossy black, white, navy blue, hunter green, light blue, pink and lavender. Retails for $295.

Away Carry-On. This suitcase has been receiving a lot of press–and for good reason. It also features built-in technology allowing travelers to charge USB electronic devices from the top of the bag. “A removable interior 10,000 mAh battery and two USB ports let multiple devices charge at once,” according to their site.

The interior features a compression packing system and removable laundry bag. The polycarbonate exterior features a built-in, TSA-approved combination lock. Dimensions are 21.7″ x 13.7″ x 9″ which meet current TSA guidelines. Weighs 7.2lbs. Comes in black, navy blue, hunter green and sand. Retails for $225.

Floatti. I’ll tell you right now, this bag is nuts. There are so many features you might as well just watch the video instead of having me list all of them. There are solutions for problems you didn’t even know you had. Dimensions are 8.27″ x 13.8″ x 21.6″ which meet current TSA guidelines. Weighs 7.9lbs. Comes in black, red and cream. Retails for $320, but will cost you $530 if you want all of the bells and whistles.

The Away Carry-On is clearly a blogger’s favorite and the Floatti is amazing, but the Raden is my pick. Now if only they shipped to Switzerland. Le sigh. What about you? What do you use?
