One of my favorite stories I heard growing up was about my dad visiting East Berlin as a college student. It’s one of those stories that needs to be heard instead of read, but it ends with a German guard pointing a machine gun at him while he backed away from the Berlin Wall.
I’ve had a fascination with this city for decades, because it has had so many lives and so many re-births. Did you know that only recently Berlin celebrated the wall being down longer than it was up?! It feels absolutely surreal that I’m getting on a plane tomorrow to see it myself. (Follow me there via my Instagram stories.) I realize Berlin is much more than it’s infamous history. I’m excited to immerse myself in the culture, people-watch and stay in a fabulous hotel. I have some museums and biergartens earmarked, but if you have any recommendations please send them along.
